Tangalle is famous for its turtles - stop by at the turtle sanctuary in nearby Rekawa. |
Temples - |
Travel in land past paddy fields to the ancient Rock Temple at Mulkirigala or Wewurukannala Temple with its giant 165ft high Buddha |
Markets - |
The vibrant local markets are a great way to experience the Sri Lankan way of life. |
Festival - |
Head to Kataragama (about 70km from Tangalle) for one of the country’s most important religious sites. Buddhists, Muslims and Hindus all come, and the Hindu festival in August usually draws a good crowd. |
Amimal/Safari - |
you could take a trip to Uda Walawe game reserve or Yala national park if you’d like to see wild elephants, Leopards and other wild life. |
Diving - |
Tangalle has a dive centre which arranges trips to a nearby reef. |
